Overview The Wilderness First Aid course is ideal for outdoor enthusiasts, trip participants, camp staff, and anyone who spends time in remote environments. It prepares students to recognize medical emergencies, perform a structured patient assessment, provide basic lifesaving care, and manage common injuries when professional help may be delayed. **Skill Level:** Any **Minimum Age:** 16 **Duration:** Minimum of 16 hours **Cost:** $200+ This hands-on course combines classroom instruction, group discussion, patient assessment drills, practical skills labs, and realistic patient simulations. What You’ll Learn * Patient assessment and medical decision-making * CPR, AED use, and basic life support * Recognizing serious medical emergencies * Calling for help and communicating patient information * Treatment of common wilderness injuries and illnesses * Environmental emergencies involving heat, cold, lightning, submersion, and toxins * Risk management and basic evacuation considerations * Wilderness Medical Associates International treatment protocols Hands-On Skills * Bleeding control and bandaging * Wound cleaning and management * Burn and blister care * Splinting musculoskeletal injuries * Non-technical lifting and patient movement * Spine-stable patient packaging * Hypothermia management * Basic patient extrication * Medical kit preparation * Management of anaphylaxis and other urgent medical conditions Evaluation & Certification * Pass/fail course with 100% attendance required * Evaluation is based on patient simulations, hands-on activities, skills performance, and a written test * Wilderness First Aid certification * Adult CPR certification based on current ILCOR and American Heart Association standards * Certifications are valid for three years Recognition and Approvals This course is recognized by several professional organizations and meets established industry standards, including: American Camp Association U.S. Coast Guard First Aid and CPR requirements under 46 CFR 11.201(i)(1) Wilderness Medicine Education Collaborative Wilderness Medical Society affiliate standards Canadian Association of Wilderness Medicine

Cancellation Policy
Turn Left Adventure & Education Cancellation Policy We understand that plans change, and we strive to be fair and flexible while honoring the time, preparation, and costs that go into each trip. Please review the following cancellation policy carefully. Participant Cancellations More than 30 days before trip start: Full refund minus a $50 administrative fee. 15–30 days before trip start: 50% refund OR full credit toward a future trip within 12 months. 14 days or less: No refund or credit (unless we can fill your spot from the waitlist). Note: If you must cancel due to illness, injury, or family emergency, we will consider exceptions on a case-by-case basis. Documentation may be required. No-Shows Participants who do not show up without notice will forfeit the full cost of the trip. Trip Cancellations by Turn Left Adventure & Education If we cancel due to weather, safety concerns, insufficient enrollment, or other unforeseen circumstances, participants will be offered: A full refund OR Full credit toward another trip or training within 12 months. We do our best to notify participants at least 7 days in advance for non-emergency cancellations. Weather-related decisions may be made closer to the event for safety.
