The Hybrid Wilderness First Responder (WFR) is the industry-standard certification for guides, leaders, and anyone responsible for others in remote environments. This course combines 30+ hours of interactive online learning with five intensive days of hands-on training to prepare you to assess, treat, and manage patients when evacuation may take hours or days. You’ll learn comprehensive wilderness medical and rescue skills, including patient assessment, trauma management, environmental emergencies, long-term care, dislocation reduction, CPR/AED, and decision-making in low-resource settings. Skills are taught through realistic scenarios, field exercises, case studies, and practical labs that build true confidence and competence. WFR is ideal for outdoor professionals, instructors, program directors, trip leaders, and experienced adventurers who want the highest level of non-EMS wilderness medical training. No prior medical experience is required, but students should be ready for active, hands-on learning. Graduates earn a Wilderness First Responder certification and BLS-level CPR, valid for three years and recognized by the ACA, CAPCE, and the U.S. Coast Guard.
